One of the First in China: Rongtao Medical Wins Bonded Ultrasound Repair Approval at Our Global Repair Headquarters in Guangzhou’s Bonded Zone

As one of the first companies in China to achieve this approved status, Rongtao Medical can now receive ultrasound systems from customers in 140+ countries for repair and re-export — without import duties, without customs uncertainty, and with full regulatory traceability.

Guangzhou, China — July 2026. We are proud to announce that Rongtao Medical has received formal government approval to operate bonded repair services for B-mode ultrasound diagnostic equipment at our global repair headquarters inside the Huangpu Comprehensive Bonded Zone in Guangzhou. The approval follows a rigorous review of our internal management systems, our customs-linked information management platform, and our environmental protection controls — all of which were confirmed to meet the entry requirements for bonded maintenance operations.

For our customers in more than 140 countries, this is more than a regulatory milestone. It removes the single biggest barrier to using a China-based repair partner: getting equipment across the border and back, legally, quickly, and at a predictable cost.

The pain point: cross-border repair has always been the hard part

The technical case for repairing ultrasound boards and probes instead of replacing them has never been in question — repair typically costs a fraction of a new part and keeps otherwise healthy systems in service. The hard part has always been logistics and customs, not electronics. Distributors and biomedical service teams who wanted to send equipment to China for repair have historically faced:

  • Import duties and VAT on goods that were never being sold. A faulty board shipped for repair could be treated by customs like an ordinary import, triggering duties and taxes on equipment that was always going to leave the country again. On high-value ultrasound hardware, those charges could rival the cost of the repair itself.
  • Restrictions on used electronics. Used and faulty electro-mechanical goods face strict import controls in China, designed to keep out disguised waste. Legitimate repair shipments could be delayed, questioned, or refused at the border through no fault of the sender.
  • Paperwork-heavy temporary-import workarounds. Temporary import schemes exist, but they involve deposits, guarantees, deadlines, and broker fees — workable for a one-off shipment, painful for a service partner sending boards and probes every month.
  • Unpredictable downtime. Every day a shipment sits in customs clearance is a day a clinical system stays down or a service contract slips. Uncertainty at the border made total turnaround time impossible to promise.
  • Compliance risk. Without a clearly sanctioned channel, even well-intentioned repair shipments lived in a regulatory gray area — a risk many hospitals, distributors, and OEM-independent service organizations were unwilling to take.

What bonded repair changes

Bonded repair (also called bonded maintenance) is a customs-supervised model in which goods enter a designated bonded zone for repair and then leave again, without ever formally being imported into China. Under our new approval, customer equipment entering the Huangpu Comprehensive Bonded Zone for repair:

  • Pays no import duty or import VAT — the goods are in a bonded status for the entire repair cycle, so none of the taxes associated with a normal import apply.
  • Clears customs through a recognized, purpose-built channel — repair shipments are handled as bonded repair goods, not as questionable used-equipment imports, removing the classification risk that caused delays and refusals.
  • Is tracked end-to-end under customs supervision — our information management system interfaces with customs oversight, so every unit is traceable from arrival through repair, testing, and re-export.
  • Is guaranteed to come back to you — the bonded model requires repaired goods to be re-exported. Equipment sent for repair cannot be diverted or resold into the domestic market, and strict rules govern the handling of unrepairable units and replaced components. Your asset stays your asset.
  • Is processed under audited environmental and safety controls — bonded repair operations are subject to recurring production-safety, environmental, and customs-supervision assessments, with dismantling-for-scrap and waste-disguised-as-repair activity explicitly prohibited.

What this means in practice for our customers

If you are a distributor, ISO, or hospital biomedical team outside China, the workflow becomes simple: ship your faulty B-mode ultrasound equipment to our facility in the Huangpu Comprehensive Bonded Zone, we repair and test it — including our standard 48-hour real-machine testing — and we re-export it back to you. No duties on your equipment, no temporary-import deposits, no gray areas, and a customs pathway designed for exactly this movement of goods.

Combined with our board-level repair capability across GE, Philips, Siemens, Mindray, Samsung Medison, Canon/Toshiba, Hitachi, Aloka, and Esaote platforms, our 3,000+ part SKUs in active inventory, and our ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 certified quality system, the bonded approval closes the last gap between a strong technical repair offer and a genuinely frictionless international repair service.

A milestone achieved in partnership with Guangzhou

This approval did not happen by accident. Over the past years, Rongtao Medical has worked closely with the local government of Guangzhou to champion a repair channel that works for international customers — sharing how cross-border repair actually flows, where our clients in over 140 countries were losing time and money at the border, and what a compliant, customs-supervised solution would need to look like in practice.

To our knowledge, Rongtao Medical is the first independent ultrasound repair specialist in China to achieve bonded repair status for B-mode ultrasound diagnostic equipment. We believe this reflects two things: the depth of partnership and shared understanding of our operating model built with the local government, and a recognition of the critical role independent repair plays in the global medical device ecosystem — keeping diagnostic equipment in service, affordable, and out of landfills for healthcare providers worldwide.

That sustained dialogue has now delivered an important milestone: a clarified, simplified, and officially sanctioned path for logistics and customs clearance on repair shipments. What used to require case-by-case workarounds is now a defined process backed by the authorities overseeing the Huangpu Comprehensive Bonded Zone. We are grateful for the Guangzhou government’s forward-looking support of the international medical equipment service industry, and we see this partnership as a foundation we will keep building on for our customers.

Why the approval matters as a mark of trust

Bonded repair licenses are not granted lightly. To qualify, an operator must demonstrate sound internal management, an IT system capable of interfacing with customs supervision, and complete environmental protection controls — and must submit to ongoing safety, environmental, and customs assessments. Receiving this approval is independent confirmation that Rongtao Medical operates at the standard international customers should demand from a repair partner handling regulated medical equipment.
